Challenge #58 – Sepia

This weeks challenge was interesting. Since it was Sepia, I needed to look for something that would work well as a black and white photo. I started out with this first picture after looking for a set of items for a still life. I ran across a collection of antique type that had been stored in a cabinet and decided they would work well as a sepia image.  I tried several arrangements and finally came up with the one below.

Since the one above was done fairly quickly, I decided to go for a walk and look for another shot. I took a walk to the lake near my house one afternoon just before sunset. I was a little upset because it clouded up just as I reached the lake. The light levels dropped drastically since it was nearing sunset. I tried a couple of shots and nothing was coming out well. Finally the clouds moved and I had a few minutes of good light. As I was walking back to the main road from the lake I spotted a whole bunch of thistles with beautiful red centers on dark green flowers. I took a couple of shots and then the light was gone for the day. I got home and looked at the shots I managed to get. The first one below is my original and the second is the sepia version. I will most likely work on the sepia version some more and make a print of it for my wall.
